"Faux Cine"

Given how often I find myself shooting still images, many would think that film is something I have very little interest in. However, if I'm honest, I would have to admit that I'm actually slightly obsessed with it! The following images have what I like to call the "Faux Cine Look". How to achieve this look is somewhat simple actually, but believe it or not, it took me sometime to figure out how to do properly. Now, it has easily become one of those things that I love to do every once in a while. Having said that, I think that pulling off this look is not as simple as just slapping some black bars on the image. So I also made sure to make the colors a bit more cinematic.

A Few Randoms

Normally I don't post too many of my random photographs, and because of that I decided to post the following images. The first was taken on my recent trip to Cape Cod where I was filming the first episode of one very special project (which shall remain a secret for now). The second was taken during an engagement photoshoot late last year.

BMW 1M-Vossen VVS CV3

A little while back, I had the amazing opportunity to shoot for Vossen wheels. I'm quite positive the name must ring a bell, as their wheels have been popping up on quite a large variety of amazing vehicles in the past couple of years. Initially, my goal for these images was to edit them in a more vibrant style, something totally different than my usual "vintage" look, something that would really make this Valencia Orange 1M pop! However, in my opinion the "look" I came up with didn't quite work out. I tried numerous times to get results I was completely happy with, but failed. Now, after three tries I finally have a look that I'm satisfied with.

You may notice this set looks different than the one on Vossen's site, and that's because I submitted the original edited photos before I did them this way. I'm not exactly thrilled about that as I feel I submitted something that wasn't at the quality it should have been. At this point there's really not much I can do but try to look at the positive side of things. I'll be the first to admit that I made some mistakes, and believe me when I tell you, coming to terms with that hasn't been easy. However, because of my mistakes I've learned quite a few valuable lessons and these are more valuable than anything you can read about, or be taught at school.

The Yuppies

"I have a new video!!" These are words that haven't left my mouth in so long, I have to repeat them to believe. It's not due to lack of footage either, but rather the creative slump that has haunted me for months now. I tried time and time again to put together many of the videos that I have in the pipeline, but failed each and every time. The main reason being that I've become too critical of my own work. It's like they say, "too much of anything can be a bad thing". Sure, it's good to be your worse critic, constantly striving to improve, but when you get to a point where you've become so critical that it stops you from making anything, then you've gone too far.

It's taken me a while to realize that and break out of my slump. The Yuppies is one of my first attempts at getting the ball rolling once more. I'll be honest and say I'm not totally happy with everything in the video, but I tried to make it the best I could with what I had. It's definitely been a learning experience. One which has given me many new ideas regarding how to go about filming future events. I want to give a special thanks to the Yuppieracing team for putting on these awesome events and inviting me along.
